Ann Colledge and her husband Tony have a small office on the upper level of their 2 story home in Oakville. They both want to use the office space effectively and simultaiously but due to the size of the room this will be tricky. They asked us to help them come up with a solution and help them build a cozy and functionaly office free of clutter. The initial concept includes a desk that wraps around three corners of the room with some upper floating and supported cabinets. We also had to work around a large window with shutters and an oddly placed light switch. Due to the demand for for extra storage space the desk is lined with drawers which will allow for filing and other storage, the upper cabinets which we are still deciding on will have to be clear of the open shutters and the lightswitch. This traditional yet modern office design is one they will never tire of…. we will keep you posted as to how things unfold.

What do you do with a tiny dining room/kitch in a chich modern condo? What Brent R wanted to do was create a simple and clean seating area that would be comfortable for guests and look great in his space. He is fond of the minimalist look and was keen on haveing white leather upholstry invloved in the seating. Initially we designed a table and banquette for Brent but he decided to purchase an Eams table insteasd. It’s okay we toally get that here at JD McNIcoll, we want to make sure that we can provide whatever you need to go along with what you already have or want to get. The base of the banquette is going to be a mocha stained oak which will go beautiful with his tan oak floors and ebony kitchen cabinets. The wall where the banquette is going is 8′ 4″ wide and the banquette is going form wall to wall creating a little nook. We are starting the production of this project soon and will have the photos up to show you when it’s ready.

Dolce is a hot up and coming Toronto night club located on King St in the heart of the new club district. We have been working on Dolce for a few motnhs now and things are moving along rapidly. The original design was created by the well known designer Mr. Important based in L.A. The interroir theme is gold, gold, gold. The bar will be laced in glod, with traslucent Glacier Ice Corian back lit shelving on one bar and stainless steel shelves with striped sandblasted mirrors on the other. Banquettes with beautful polyvinal gold material run along the side walls and the V.I.P section has it’s own fireplace. There will be 2 different kinds of chandellers scattered throughout the club as well as assorted LED amber lights that will line the banquettes, there is also a beautful lit column of glass lined with gold that sits in the center of the club and surrounded by a gold banquette. There are overhangs on th cieling also covered in gold sheet material… this place is going to be amazing. We will keep you posted as things progress with this project, you won’t want to miss the end result.

Adel and her daughter Jessica’s dream of having thier own cupcake shop has come to life with the opening of Cupcake Lane near Vaughan Mills mall in Maple. We were glad to help them build their dream literally with the cute countertop and condiment unit that we designed and built, almost as cute as the cupcakes themselves. They didn’t have much time to get ready for the opening so we had to hustle in order to have everything ready on time. We were able to help them out and the result was a stylish plastic laminate countertop with a stained and lacquered oak base. The main colours in this shop are brown and pink and the shop in itslef has more then enough natural light due to the large windows that line the corner unit. They wanted open shelves along the inside of the unit and we alco built them a back corner unit with a small sink and espresso machine. Today Cupcake Lane is up and running and we wish both Adel and Jessica the best of luck!

Mark and Linda Hansen had their priorities straight when wanting to finish their basement with a space where they could relax and entertain guests or hang out with the family and we have helped them do just that. This cozy basement living area with a walk-up bar and fully equip entertainment unit makes an ideal area to have fun or chill out and relax. The focal point of this space is the slate fireplace with comfy bench seating on either side which are topped with pillows for additional comfort and visual warmth. The bench seating doubles as a storage facility for extra pillows and throws. Here is a place where the kids can cozy up with a good book by the fire or just lounge when guest are over. The entertainment unit displays the family’s request for a transitional space.

Displaying clean lines, floating shelves and flat panel surfaces of stained and lacquered walnut, a clean and soothing feeling is what we were after.

The bar highlights glasses in the open upper cabinets with the help of upper pot lights, pot llights also lace the underside of the cabinets to illuminate the granite counter top, the window is encased with a wooden frame to create consistency. At the moment the mark and Linda are deciding on the final details. We will keep you posted as we help them turn their dream into reality.

As we know space is precious in many of todays condos and the need for spacial organizers is in demand. That’s why when we were asked to create a storage and office area in one for Ryan we had to get a few things straight. It’s important to find out exactly what he needed to organize down to a tee. To do this we had Ryan take an inventory of what he had lying around that needed to be put away, we then visited the space to have a look and see what we had to work with.

Wonderful way to utilize a tiny condo space!

Ryan requested that he needed a place to keep his hockey equipment, shoes, seasonal clothing including jackets and shoes, tools, cleaning supplies and he also wanted to use the space to spread out his personal papers and organize his files. The space is approximately 7 x 7 1/2, with this we had to decide on where the best place would be to position the desk and closet organizer. In terms of the look of the furniture we were inspired by Ryan’s ultra modern look, the closet and desk are finished in a stained walnut and white lacquer and equip with Marelli e Molteni hardware keeping the ultra modern look in tack. A 2 inch thick boarder surrounds the unit and makes up the complete desk. We also added 2 accent shelves to complete the space. Now what a wonderful way to utilize a tiny condo space!

Being an interior designer in a busy design firm like JDMcNicoll requires multitasking on an everyday bases and dealing with a number of projects and clients at any given time. Introducing one of our generous clients Joe and Kety D’Ambrosio who are in the midst of finishing their newly built home, gets us right to the bottom of what we do.

We design interiors with the client and customize their space to meet their needs.

We always keep it simple to maximize efficiency. In this case we are designing their closets, laundry room, vanities for the master and powder room, entertainment center and other custom mill work throughout the entire home.

Our goal is to really listen to Joe and Kety to make sure that we were heading in the right direction. After carefully assessing their needs, we take our vision and transom it straight to a 3D solid model where configured numerous options. By using software like sketchup and ecabinet we are able to detect weather or not we are making the most efficient use of the space until we finally arrive at the final outcome

At the moment Joe and Kety are quite pleased with the designs and how quickly things are moving along. We are currently creating sketches of their entertainment unit and vanities so be sure to check back for an update to see how their dream home is unfolding.
